ABOUT

YOUSSEF
GUEZOUM

Youssef Guezoum is a Moroccan-American film composer and orchestrator based in Los Angeles, and a two-time Hollywood Music in Media Award nominee. He has made a mark as the first Moroccan composer to achieve such international recognition in the film scoring industry.

His credits include scoring for Power Rangers (Saban Entertainment), as well as numerous well-known Middle Eastern television series. Youssef has also composed soundtracks for film, television, video games, and trailers for major Hollywood studios such as Paramount Pictures, Universal Music Group, Lionsgate, and others. His music has featured in hit shows including CSI: Miami, Secrets and Lies, Hell’s Kitchen, PGA Tour, and more.

Born in Marrakech, Morocco—a city known for its vibrant musical and cultural heritage—Youssef was deeply influenced by a rich blend of sounds, from the folk music of the Atlas Mountains and African rhythms like Gnawa to Andalusian (Moorish) melodies. These early influences sparked his lifelong love for music. At the age of 10, he picked up the guitar and later became the bassist of a rock fusion band he formed with friends, aptly named The Marrakech, as a tribute to their hometown’s spirit.

Alongside music, Youssef developed a strong passion for cinema. As a child, he frequently visited movie theaters with friends to watch action, suspense, and adventure films—experiences that left him captivated by the power of music to enhance storytelling and evoke emotion.

He studied piano at the Jette Academy of Music in Brussels, Belgium. He later moved to Canada, where he obtained a diploma in Visual Sound Design from Vancouver Film School. He then worked at Creative Future, a renowned production company known for its sound design work on major films such as Terminator II, Harry Potter, and others. He also holds an Advanced Certificate in Film Scoring from California State University.

Youssef’s diverse musical background and deep understanding of Western classical traditions allow him to blend genres seamlessly, creating music that authentically conveys a director's vision. His work spans a wide range of platforms including feature films, television, video games, animated content, corporate media, and commercials.

In 2013, he became a National Active Member of the Television Academy (Emmy Awards) and joined the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) in Hollywood, California.
